What Is Parent Commissioning?
As parents, many things are vying for your attention, but the most important thing you could do for your child is to introduce them to Jesus and teach them to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Parent Commissioning is a way to make this commitment public, while asking your family, friends, and church family to come alongside as you do.
While we are sending (commissioning) parents in the power of the Holy Spirit into their homes, we promise to go with them. It is our desire to partner with parents as they commit and devote themselves to invest in their children and to “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4 NIV). The home is the parent’s primary mission field, and every parent is the primary spiritual leader who devotes themselves to seeing the gospel flourish in their children.
What Is the Parent Commissioning Class?
At the Parent Commissioning Class, we discuss God’s design for parenting and how we hope to support and partner with you and your growing family in discipling your children. You will meet other parents and be encouraged as you trust God in your parenting. We also go over what the actual commissioning will look like during a weekend service.
This class is a prerequisite to the commissioning and for both parents. And, as your family grows, take the class again to affirm your commitment and to share your family discipling experiences with others who are just beginning.
How Is Parent Commissioning Different Than Child Dedication?
1. While we wholeheartedly celebrate God’s gift of children, at Parent Commissioning the emphasis is the “commissioning” of you, the parents, to share the gospel to your most important “mission field”: your family.
2. Parent Commissioning Classes are for any parent, regardless of a child’s age.
3. Parent Commissioning is parents making a commitment before our church family to devote themselves to invest in their children and any children under their care, and to “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord”. (Ephesians 6:4 NIV). We are happy to commission families with preschool, elementary, and even middle and high-school aged kids.
4. Parent Commissioning is also asking the Church to help you in this mission.

NEWBORN – AGE 23 mo.
Our Nursery and Walkers rooms are designed to meet kids in their phase. We want to embrace kids’ needs so they can know God’s love and meet God’s family. We want to partner with families by providing spaces for your kids so you can attend a worry-free worship service while your kids are cared for in a safe, engaging and fun environment.
AGE 2 – 5
Our preschool rooms are designed to meet kids’ in their phase. We want to embrace kids needs so they can know God’s love and meet God’s family. We want to partner with families by providing spaces for your kids so you can attend a worry-free worship service while your kids are cared for in a safe, engaging and fun environment. Throughout their time in POWER Kids, kids will hear and interact with a Bible story, play games, do a craft, have a snack, and sing and dance to songs. Families will receive their kid’s craft and a Parent Cue to help continue the conversations at home.
We want our preschoolers to know:
• God made them.
• God loves them.
• Jesus wants to be their friend forever.
K – 3RD GRADE
Our elementary space is designed to meet kids in their phase. We want to engage the interest of elementary kids, so they can trust God’s character and experience God’s family. We want to help elementary kids own their own faith. We want to show kids that the Bible is the source of wisdom and truth and how what they learn applies to their daily lives. Kids will have an opportunity to interact in a large-group and small-group setting. Throughout the service kids will hear and interact with a Bible story, learn our monthly memory verse and bottom line for the day, sing a worship song led by our POWER Kids Worship Team, collect offering, have game time and participate in activities that reinforce the Bible story and bottom line. At pick-up, families take home a Parent Cue and God Time to help continue the conversation at home.
We want our elementary kids to know they:
• Can trust God no matter what.
• Need to make the wise choice.
• Should treat others the way they want to be treated.
4TH – 5TH GRADE
Surge is our 4th and 5th grade space. We recognize as kids enter 4th and 5th grade that they are beginning a different phase, and we think it’s important to provide them with a space that meets them in their phase. Our time together looks similar to POWER Kids Elementary K-3 but it is geared to older elementary students as we interact with the Bible story and Small Group activities.
CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
In Spark, we partner one-on-one with families to create the best experience for kids with special needs. Each kid is matched with a Spark buddy, who will get to know your kid’s needs and be able to meet your kid where they are and help them grow. Spark kids and their Spark buddy can be in our Spark room and/or join their age-appropriate space for all or part of the service.
PARTNER WITH FAMILIES
CHECK-IN
All kids (newborn-5th grade) check into POWER Kids. You will be assisted by our POWER Kids Check-In team to get your family registered. We will ask registration information on your first time to POWER Kids. Kid’s name tag and parent pick-up number will print at our kiosks. When you pick-up following the service, we will ask for your pick-up number and match that number to the number on your kid’s name tag.
PARENTS
Parents, no one has more potential to influence your child than you do! There are 936 weeks from the time your child is born until graduation. You have the opportunity to leverage your influence throughout all the phases your kids will go through. We want to partner with you! Two combined influences are greater than just two influences.
RESOURCES
Your kids will grow up a lot faster than you ever dreamed. Time flies! Our Family Resource Wall (located in POWER Kids Check-In) is full of ways for families to connect and grow together. Pick up some resources this weekend, be encouraged and challenged to try something with your family. What you do every week matters!

We at Grace Church are committed to partnering with you: parents, caregivers, and guardians as you make disciples in your home – as you spiritually lead your families to faith in Jesus.
